Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia and the capital of the Kvarner region, which is situated between Istria and Dalmatia.
Throughout its history it came under Austrian, Hungarian, French and Venetian administration. It was a wanted place because of its location, at the sea but very near the heart of Central Europe.
